Sweet Lullabies

tyrants they taunt her
lead her to believe
things will get better once she does succeed
the girl, she's the wiser
for here in circles she goes
and won't ever break the pattern
because it's all that she knows

the demons they whisper
sweet lullabies
of a place where the angels
look down from the skies

they say forget love only take with you pain
it'll make it easier to keep your head in the game
she's restless but worn
hollow and torn
heart's broken, soul's buried, her eyes read forlorn
she's weary but understands
that the stage is where it ends
so she packs up her things
and she gives them to friends

she accepts her new leaders
secretly they deceive her
she hears the piper's music, leading her to the theatre
the final act replaces second
and the spotlight shines down
a tear in her eye and a quivering mouth

the demons they push her onto the stage
the girl knows there's no turning back
she whispers her story as sweet lullabies fade out slowly
and the show quickly fades to black
